The neckstrap is wider than the standard neckstrap. Being wider allows weight distribution to be spread over a larger area. Additionally the weave of the strap aids to the safety/security in the use on a large heavy camera. I've used this strap type on the Canon 60D and the EOS 1 ds along with the 70-300 Canon L glass. No strain and very comfortable.
